Pianist Silviya Mihaylova is currently based in Glasgow, UK where she enjoys busy life as a performer, chamber musician and a teacher. Currently Silviya is the pianist for Sound Collective Scotland, the accompanist for the Glasgow Philharmonic Male Voice Choir and a lecturer in piano at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, both in their Junior and Senior Departments. Silviya, alongside her friend and colleague Juliette Philogene is also the Co-Founder of SilPhi Music.
Born in Plovdiv, Silviya started playing the piano at age of 7. After showing serious interest and much potential in performing, she was recommended to one of the most renowned piano teachers in Bulgaria - Mrs. Rositza Ivancheva, who took Silviya in her piano class at the National School for Music and Dance Arts “Dobrin Petkov”. In 2007 Silviya graduated as the valedictorian of the school and was awarded the “Special NSMDA award” for serving many good causes and “Penka Popova” Special prize for high achievements in the academic subjects.
Silviya continued her studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, where she studied with Prof Fali Pavri – a pupil of Victor Merzhanov, who could trace his teaching descendancy back to P. I. Tchaikovsky. In 2011 Silviya graduated RSAMD with Bachelor of Music Performance with the Honours of The First Class and one year later she obtained her Master of Music Performance Degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, finishing the two years course in only one intensive year.
Silviya is an Alumni of Live Music Now Scotland, organisation found by Yehudi Menuhin where she performed with flautist Nikola Kyosev, soprano Oksana Mavrodii and mezzo-soprano Svetlina Stoyanova. She joined LMN in 2008, being just 19 years old - one of the youngest musicians to be accepted in the scheme. As a piano specialist and Alumni, Silviya was also an adjudicator, part of the LMN Audition panel.
Silviya is sought-after educator – she is a former visiting piano teacher at the Mehli Mehta Music Foundation (created in honour of Zubin Mehta’s father) in Mumbai, India; she has a private piano and theory class for over a decade and is the Teaching Specialist at the RCS Piano Department.
Silviya has performed as part of the Fringe Festival, RCS Piano Festival, NSMDA Summer Concerts and more and she has performed on tours along Scotland, India and Bulgaria to name a few.
